Susie Howard

CHICAMAUGA Susie "Meemaw" Howard, 74, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at her home.She was a lifetime member of McFarland United Methodist Church and a retired nurse with the Lookout Mountain Community Services where she served as a social worker for special needs children for over 15 years. Previously she had worked in the office of Drs. Ellis and Sherrill, M.D's. She loved helping others and being a compassionate care-giver. She loved making crafts, cooking, being a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed going to Gatlinburg and also the yearly trips to the beach on family vacations.She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Stanley M. Howard Sr.; parents, Franklin Robert and Edith Mae Dugan Shambaugh; and brother, Gene Shambaugh.Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Howard; son, Stan Howard Jr.; grandchildren, Caleb Howard, Haylee J. Hankins, Lee M. Howard and Marshall B. Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Lexis Peeples and Adlea Lawrence.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, in McFarland United Methodist Church.Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.Arrangements by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
