Violet Bates

Violet Marie Bates, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in a local hospital.She was a native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was of the Baptist faith.Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lottie Wilson; daughter, Rosa Lee Gentry; sister, Josephine Lynn; brothers, James Lee Wilson and Roy Brooks.Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Edward Bates; children, Lottie Marie (Sean Vance) East, Johnny Richard (Kathy) Gentry Jr., Judy Ann (Jerry) Schrimpsher, Jesse Lamar (Kim) Gentry, Debbie Sue (James) Taylor and David William (Marie) Gentry; brother, Lawrence Wilson; sister, Tippie Jane Redmon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.To share expressions of sympathy, visit lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
