Melvin Barnes, 85, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013.Mr. Barnes was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He retired from TVA after 30 years of employment. Mr. Barnes was a longtime member and deacon of MeadowView Baptist Church. He enjoyed golf and bowling. He was proud of the fact that he bowled a "perfect game."Preceded in death by loving wife of 50 years, Christine Simmons Barnes; brother and four sisters.Survived by son, Kent (Jill) Barnes, of Chattanooga; daughter, Dr. Kristy (Tri) Barnes Le, of High Point, N.C.; son, Paul (Chas) Barnes, of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Jameson Barnes, Garrett Le, Jacqueline Le, Abrielle and Addison Coleman; two brothers Euell and Malcolm Barnes; several nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev.
