Jack Varner

Jack M. Varner, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. Mr. Varner was born in Soddy, Tenn. and a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School Class of 1952. He was a 4 year U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for eight years. After serving in the military, he worked in sales in the Knoxville area before moving to Chattanooga where he owned and operated his own real estate firm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Eva Varner; and brother, John Cruse. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Carol P. Varner; stepchildren, Herb Spaulding, David Spaulding and Beth Blake; six grandchildren; and two nephews, Justin and Jeff Cruse. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, and from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
