Mike McConnell, 60, our beloved husband, father, son, friend and confidant, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Mike is survived by his wife, Cindy; his mother Shirley Lobrano, of Mangham, La.; daughters, Meghann Myers, of Houston, Texas, Cassie Kelley, of Nashville, Michaelanne Lauderdale, of Seacrest, Fla., Molly McConnell, of Nashville; sons-in-law, Jesse Myers, Charles Kelley and Matt Lauderdale; grandson, Jackson Myers; and nephews, Caleb McConnell, of Dallas, Texas, Jordy McConnell, of Dallas, Texas and Mark McConnell, of Starkville, Miss. His father, Massey McConnell; and brother, Brian McConnell, preceded him in death. Mike dedicated his life to his family, numerous friends, and his St. Georges Episcopal Church community where he served on The Vestry and as a member of the Christian Leadership Concepts (CLC) mens group. His daughters were the lights of his life and he was always quick to support each of them whether it was fixing "the perfect ponytail" in their hair, serving as their little league softball coach, helping with math homework, attending a graduation, or giving advice on how to cook the best BBQ chicken. He was also a loving husband to Cindy, his wife of 21 years, and happily told nearly everyone he encountered how special & lucky he felt to have found her. Mike was a constant source of love, laughter, support & encouragement to all who knew him. He was also passionately dedicated to his business, Apollo Trading Company. He founded Apollo in 2009, the same year he was diagnosed with cancer, and continued to work each day out of love and dedication to his job until the end of his life. Mike was an attendant of Mangham (La.,) High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball, and went on to Mississippi College where he played football and baseball before graduating from Louisiana Tech University, where he earned his B.S. in animal sciences. A visitation will be held at St. Georges Episcopal Church at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 17, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, to please consider a donation to Fight Colorectal Cancer at FightColorectalCancer.org/do-something/donate or Pearl Point Cancer Support at PearlPoint.org/Donate or by phone at 877-467-1936.
