Bob Garner Jr.

Robert Lee "Bob" Garner Jr., 78, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013. He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Walker County, Ga., son of the late Robert L. Garner Sr. and the late Susie Belle Hawkins Garner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Barnes. Mr. Garner was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Air Force and was a graduate of Kirkman High School and of Tennessee Tech.He retired from Gillman, Jones, Blair as credit manager. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Grace Garner; children, Melinda Clark and Robert LeBron Garner; grandchildren, Lydia Clark and Linda Simmons; great-grandson ,Spencer Simmons; brothers, Paul R. Garner and Jackie Garner. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 31, from Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421 with Rev. David Hall officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. CST Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Duggan Smith Cemetery in the Ivyton Community in Overton County, Tenn. The family will receive friends at Christ United Methodist Church from 2-4 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
