Doris York

RINGGOLD Doris Pierce York, 92, formerly of the Burning Bush Community, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Hospice of Chattanooga.Mrs. York worked for many years at several area florists before opening her own shop, Doris York Florist. She was well known for her creativity with both fresh and silk flowers. Born into a pioneering family of Walker County, she grew up in the Peavine and Rock Spring area.Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Burton York; and son, Randall Lee York. Also preceding her death was longtime friend, Alvin J. Stancel; parents, Winnie McKaig and Jesse Gordon Pierce; four brothers; and three sisters.Surviving are her daughter, Dianne Morgan, Rossville; granddaughters, Amy Morgan, Rossville, Carol Morgan, Milwaukee, Wis.; great-granddaughter, Laura Morgan, Huntsville; and one great-great-grandson, Thomas Watson, Huntsville; two sisters, June Anderson and Bettye Gulledge, both of Rossville; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. today at Peavine Cemetery with Rev. Herman Kapherr officiating.Anyone who wishes, may join the family for prayer before leaving for the cemetery.Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Dennis Pierce, Jimmy Pierce, Tim Pierce, Zak Blevins and Pat Ingram.
