Miriam Taylor

Miriam L. Taylor, 88, longtime resident of Chattanooga, and most recently of Birmingham, Ala., passed into eternity on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.Known affectionately to her grandchildren as "Mimi", she was a Christian who loved the Lord and served him with dedication. She attended Freed-Hardeman College and the University of Chattanooga (now UTC), where she ultimately earned a masters degree. She devoted her adult life to education, serving as teacher in the Chattanooga public school system and teacher/assistant principal/principal at Boyd-Buchanan School, where she served in the elementary division for 22 academic years. After retiring from Boyd-Buchanan she also served as principal of Hickory Valley Christian School for a time. She sought not merely to teach but to truly educate. She cared deeply for her students, letting them know that she believed in them and that they were capable of success.She was preceded in death by a sister, Dena Grisard.Survivors include her husband of over 65 years, Don Taylor; sister, Martha (Ed) Dykes, of Wetumpka, Ala.; brother, Richard (Kathryn) Leeper, of Milton, Fla.; daughters, Carol (Dennis) Gregg, of Birmingham, Ala., and Gail (Mike) Schild, of Birchwood, Tenn.; son, Richard (Lora) Taylor, of Columbia, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Visitation and a memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at the East Brainerd church of Christ in Chattanooga.The service will be streamed online via the churchs web site (www.eastbrainerdchurch.org).
