Charles Starring

ROCKWOOD, Tenn. Mr. Charles E. Starring, 89, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 in the Roane Medical Center, Harriman, Tenn. He was born Aug. 30, 1923 in Rockwood, Tenn., to Ralph Stebbins Starring and Ruth Ann Hinds Starring. Mr. Starring was a member of First Baptist Church, Rockwood, Tenn.; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Rockwood and the American Legion. Mr. Starring was a retired Unit Operator with the Tennessee Valley Authority with 34 years of service and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local # 270 in Oak Ridge, TN. Mr. Starring was a U.S Navy Veteran of WWII having served on the U.S.S. Gamble "Minesweeper" DM-15 and was a survivor of the invasion of Iwo Jima on Feb. 19, 1945. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman; enjoyed farming and planting a garden; was on a bowling league for many years at Midtown Bowling Lanes in Midtown, Tenn.; and played softball for many years in Spring City, Tenn., and Rockwood, Tenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Starring. Survivors include: wife of 59 years, Jimmie Starring, of Rockwood, Tenn.; sons,Eddie Starring and wife, Patsy, of Rockwood, Tenn., Donnie Starring, of Blueridge, Ga.; Grandchildren, Alison Bebee and husband, Phillip, of Knoxville, Tenn., Paula Starring, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jamie Starring, of Fort Collins, Colo., Travis Starring, of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister,Martha Jean Blevins, of Kingston, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 26, from Noon until 2 p.m. at the Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Stebbins Cemetery in Grandview, TN with Bro. Ben McNees officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the Grandview Heritage Foundation; P.O.
