Doug Esther

James Douglas Esther, 71, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013.After graduating from The Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Applied Mathematics, Doug proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a T-38 instructor pilot achieving the rank of Captain. After his honorable discharge, he worked as an executive in the apparel industry where he retired as the owner of his own business.Dougie, as he was called by his granddaughters, loved to fish, garden, play (win at) cards, read, and work jigsaw, crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Doug was a beloved husband, father, granddad, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Esther, as well as three of his brothers and two of his sisters.He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jonnie Black Esther; their daughters, Cathy Yarbrough and her husband David, Lisa Esther, and Kennon Yori and her husband Larry; their granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Esther, Abby Yori, McKenzie McParland, Madison McParland and Annie Yori; seven of his brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in The Commons at the church.Remembrances may be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or Rivermont Presbyterian Church.Condolences and memories may be shared with the family by visiting www.hamiltonfuneraloptions.comArrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services; 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tennessee. 423-531-3975.
