Samuel Barnett

Samuel C. Barnett, 91, of Chattanooga and formerly of Atlanta died Wednesday, June 19, 2013.Dr. Barnett received his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech in 1948 and his Ph.D in mechanical engineering also from Georgia Tech in 1962. He became a professor of mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech retiring in 1980. Dr. Barnett then worked for the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations until his retirement in 1987. He was also a veteran of The United States Army.Dr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Willett Barnett; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel R. and Andria Barnett; grandson, Matthew Joseph Barnett; brothers, Dave Barnett, John Barnett; and sister, Marge Pennington.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Georgia Tech Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1444, Ringgold, GA 30736.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Patterson's Arlington Chapel.Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M.
