Charles Anderton

Charles Anderton, 88, died peacefully in his sleep at Alexian Village in Chattanooga on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.He was born in Memphis, on Nov. 12, 1924 and was the last surviving member of the Anderton family that included 11 brothers.During World War II, he served in the US Armys 568th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Batillion in Central Europe and was awarded two Bronze Stars for acts of valor, the American Theater Ribbon, Fame Theater Ribbon and EX Bar Marksmanship Badge.Charlie lived in New Orleans, La., for 20 years and was evacuated to San Antonio, Texas, following Hurricane Katrina, before relatives brought him to Chattanooga in 2005.He is survived by his two great-nieces, Michelle Anderton Waterhouse and Dana Anderton Miller (Don Miller), and his great-great-niece and nephew, Taylor Miller and Jack Miller.Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Wann Funeral Home and burial will be Monday, March 25 at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Alexian Brothers PACE Program, 25 Cumberland St., Chattanooga, TN 37404.
