Nancy Patten

CLEVELAND Nancy J. Patten, 63, passed away recently surrounded by her family at her home after battling Alzheimers disease for several years.She was the oldest daughter of Gordon and Miriam Stone Haug. The Haug family immigrated to the United States from Norway in the early 1900s. She was born and raised in South Dakota and graduated in 1967 from Central High School in Aberdeen before moving to this area in the early 1970s.Nancy accomplished her lifelong calling of becoming a Registered Nurse in 1989 when she graduated from Cleveland State Community College. She worked at Bradley Memorial Hospital in the newborn nursery and on 4North for over 15 years before working in the Intensive Care Units at both Cleveland Community and Parkridge Hospitals. In 2004, she received her bachelor of science in nursing from East Tennessee State University where she graduated with highest honors. Nancy was most proud of the high level of care she provided to her patients. Many of them would stop her while out shopping and profusely thank her for the superb care she provided to them and their loved ones.She enjoyed spending time at home with her four children and her many pets. She also enjoyed the Holidays, working in her yard, sitting out by her pool, researching her family history, antiquing, sewing and talking on the phone to her friends and family. She was a passionate animal lover and rescued many dogs and cats. Nancy loved traveling, especially to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where she had hoped to relocate after retirement.Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Gordon William Haug and countless beloved pets she adopted throughout the years.Nancy leaves behind four children to cherish her memory: Amy McGranahan and husband Brian, Catherine Patten (Rusty Snyder) all of Cleveland, Tenn., Maggie Patten and fianc Danny Schoenbaechler, of Louisville, Ky., Charlie Patten, of Nashville; one granddaughter, Alex McGranahan; sisters, Laura Greenleaf, of Austin, Texas, and Debbie Williams, of Nashville; and one brother, Stephen Haug and wife, Stephanie, of Austin, Texas. Nancy is also survived by her close family friend, Marsha Goodwin; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other extended family members and friends.The family would like to say a special thank you for the loving care provided by Hospice of Chattanooga, Signature Health Care, Clare Bridge, Alexian Brothers Valley, and Dr. Daniel Vance.The family will hold a private memorial service at St. Lukes Episcopal Church officiated by The Rev. Dr. Joel W.
