Leonard Wilson

Leonard Lemoyne Wilson, 87, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at a local healthcare facility. He was born Jan. 6, 1926 to Will Wilson and Lillian Sheeler Wilson. He was a graduate with honors of Morgan Park High School in Chicago. Leonard entered the U.S. Army and earned the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and was stationed in the Pacific Arena; a veteran of World War II receiving the follow medals; Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of occupation medal in Japan.He was employed at Chicago Transit Authority and retired Chicago Fire Fighter. Leonard was a member of the Chicago Fire Fighters Association and a board member of Hope for the INN-CITY. His was a member o f New Fellowship Presbyterian Church of America. Hobbies included, travelling, reading, singing and helping his family.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred S. Wilson; parents, Will and Lillian Wilson; brother, Earl L. Wilson Sr.; sisters, Freddie (James) Flemister, Thelma (Sam) Davis, Mildred (Clerence) Dodds, Conious (Ben) Calloway, Lilliam (Jesse) Martin, Virginia (Carson) Bobo; and brother-in-law, James.Survivors include his son, Michael (Patricia) Tole, Milan, Tenn.; sister, Robie Betts, Maryville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Beverly Mathis Wilson, Hixson; niece/caretakers, Conious (William) Price, Chattanooga, Juana Wilson (Clint) Roberts, Hixson, Mildred J. Dodds and Thelma Collier, Chattanooga; three cousins, David Leon (Loretta) Worthington, Chicago, Ill., Ruth Bostic, Chattanooga, and Helen Miller, Cleveland, Tenn.; devoted nieces, and nephews from the Flemister, Davis, Wilson, Betts, Dodds, Martin, Bobo and Hill families. Special thanks to Brookdale Senior Living in Hixson; St. Barnabas and Hospice of Chattanooga.Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at New City Fellowship Presbyterian Church, located at 2424 E. Third street, Chattanooga, with Pastor A. Randy Nabors, Pastor Jim Pickett and Pastor Kelvin Smith officiating.Interment in National Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 6 7 p.m.at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
