Stanley Carter

Stanley Eugene "Gene" Carter, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Chattanooga Hospice Center, following a brave and stoic fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters.Gene was born in Chickamauga, Ga., and was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area.He was a devoted member and tireless servant at Fairview United Methodist Church. He loved his family who will remember him as a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He was the quiet rock of the family. Gene never met a stranger; he was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by all.Gene enjoyed time spent with friends, traveling and working outdoors.He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Eva Carter; and a brother, Jackie Carter.Survivors include his wife, Rita Pearson Carter; daughters, Erika (Frank) Brown and Laura (David) Ward; and grandchildren, Carter and Madison "Maddy" Ward; nephews, Randy, Ronnie and Tony Carter; niece, Angie (Lynn) Sears; sister-in-law, Susan Pearson Swinney.A Memorial Service celebrating Genes life will be held at 11 a.m. today at North Chapel with the Rev.
