Johnie Askew

Johnie Ray Askew, 85, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home in Chattanooga.A lifelong Chattanoogan, he was retired from DuPont Nylon after 40 years of service.Johnie was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, where he served as head usher and also served on several committees. He was a 60-year (lifetime) member of John Henry Pierce Masonic Lodge, held 32nd-degree in Scottish Rite and was in Alhambra Shrine.He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a torpedoman in World War II.Mr. Askew was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hall Askew; parents, Robert and Verna Askew; sisters, Ruth Askew (Albert) Mullis, Chickamauga, Ga., Robbie Askew (Paul) Parham, Chattanooga and June Askew (Bernard) Reed, of Section, Ala.; brothers, Robert Askew Jr., Chattanooga, Jack (Lucille) Askew, Gadsden, Ala., Bill (Virginia) Askew, Chicago, Ill., and O.S. "Sam" (Martha) Askew, Tiftonia, Tenn.Survivors include a son, Jeff Askew, of Chattanooga; daughter, Amy (Tim) Jollay, of Soddy-Daisy; daughter-in-law, Donna Askew, of Ringgold; granddaughter, Brittany Askew (Dustin) Carpenter, Brunswick, Ga.; granddaughter, Michala Askew, of Ringgold; grandsons, Corey Kirksey, of Chattanooga and Daniel Jollay, Soddy-Daisy.A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at North Chapel with the Rev. Donald Vincent and the Rev.
