Jean Heuser

ROCK SPRING Valetta Jean Heuser, 93, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, in a local hospital.Mrs. Heuser was a charter member of Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church where she served as pianist from 1953-1978. An accomplished pianist, for traditional church music, she served in churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia playing for quartets, radio programs and choirs wherever she lived. For several years, she served as church librarian at Lakeview First Baptist Church in Rossville. She was employed with the law firm of Goins, Gammon, Baker & Robinson as a legal secretary and retired in 1985 following 25 years of service.Mrs. Heuser was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Heuser; parents, Bertha and Lester Clark, of Danville, Ky.; and sister, Cleo Stephens, of Louisville, Ky.A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Carol (Clyde) Mathews, of Rock Spring and Patsy (Charlie) Moss, of Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren, Penny Mathews Withers, of Victoria, Texas, Kevin Mathews, Ooltewah, Anna Moss Brown and Charles Moss, of Virginia; great-grandchildren who called her Great-Gran, Grace, John and Nathan Winters, Victoria and Valetta Mathews, Darcy and Judah Brown; brothers, Edward and James Clark; sisters, Madge Mayes, of Kentucky and Bertha Lou Meade, of Tennessee.Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel.Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.To share expressions of sympathy, visit lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family will receive friends today from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
