Al West

Allison "Al" Barry West Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home late Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, surrounded by his family. Al was born in Rome, Miss. on Dec. 10, 1932, to the late Allison B. and Mildred Stillions West. Al was married 61 years to his high school sweetheart, Peggy Sexton West. He was a member of Garrison Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He served as director of purchasing and personnel and plant superintendent at Suburban Manufacturing Co. for 18 years before he and Peggy became owners of West True Value. In February of 1995, he became the first Rhea County E911 Director until he retired. Al is survived by his wife Peggy West, of Dayton; his four children, Vicki (Mike) Massengill, Barry (Brittany) West, Cindy (Les) Roddy, all of Dayton and Randy (DeeDee) West, of Newport, Tenn.; his eight grandchildren, Alyson Rice, Angie King, Ally West, Josh Roddy, Megan Owensby, Brandee Sawyer, Charlie West and Darcy West; and his seven great-grandchildren, Mollie, Briley, Brady, Gracie, Lyla, Bo and Audrey; and his sisters, Nancy (Charles) Beam, of Dayton and Sherrie (Philip) Wakefield, of Florence, Ala. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mike Breeden officiating. He will be laid to rest Sunday in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Black and his staff at Sale Creek Family Practice and the Garrison Baptist Church family.
