Bill Murphy Jr.

Bill "Pop" William Murphy Jr., 92, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, after having lived the last 12 years under the loving care of his daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Don Kadlac. Pop, as everyone knew him was of the Catholic faith and was past Grand Knight of Saint Johns Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Merchant Marines and was a member of the Merchant Maritime Veterans Association and American Legion Post 1000. He was also a member of the Society of Marine Port Engineers and past member of the United States Line Quarter century club. He was a 1942 graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and his Career for over 25 years was with the United States Lines as a Chief Engineer with his final sailing being on the famous S.S. United States. He was later a boiler engineer with Englewood hospital and FNC Corporation until his Retirement. He was a avid sports fan and was known for being a sports historian. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Constance Cormier Murphy; son, Robert Murphy; granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Dottino; and brother, Howard Murphy. In addition to his daughter and son-in-law, survivors include daughter-in-law, Suzanne Murphy; grandsons, G. Scott Dottino, of Saipan, Sean and Justin Murphy; granddaughters, Lynn Murphy Fallat and Laura Costa; great-grandchildren, Aidan Murphy, Freddy Errichetta, Amy and David Fallat, Christopher Harris and Kayla Costa; one brother, George Murphy; stepgrandchildren, Todd, Tracy and Seth Kadlac; stepgreat-grandchildren, Taylor, Cole and Jack Kadlac and Ashley and Shane Clements; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randy Bell officiating followed by cremation. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time Saturday.
