J. Pat Farmer

Joseph Patrick "J. Pat" Farmer, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was retired from the Volunteer State Life Insurance Co., where he was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was born March 26, 1921, in Chattanooga to Alma and Oscar Farmer. Pat was a longtime member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and was a big supporter of HaCoBACare ministries. In his younger days he was an avid trout fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Pat was preceded in death by son, Richard P. Farmer; his parents, Oscar and Alma Farmer; brothers, Leonard, Ray and Mike Farmer; sister, Ann Groves; and his wife, Evelyns son, Robert Wayne Murphree. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Farmer; sister, Doris Payne, of Atlanta; daughter, Mary Alice Lynn (Robert) of Knoxville, daughter, Sally Jeanne (Paul) Rossmann, of James Island, S.C.; son, James Matthew Farmer, of Rossville; Evelyns daughter, Linda Jean Rutemeyer, of Ooltewah; granddaughters, Luba Michelle Lynn and Erin Lake Browne; great-grandson, Iden; ex-wife, Jeanne P. Farmer. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
