Madeline Gist

Madeline Elizabeth Gaston went to be with God in a new glorious body on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 5:40 a.m. She was born the third child, Nov. 25, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Harry and Ruth Gaston. Her oldest brother, Edward, died during his service to his country in World War II. Her brother, J.D., died as a child. She attended Phillips High School in Chicago where she was the valedictorian in 1945. She went to beautician school and later worked for the United States Post Office from 1951 to her retirement in 1988. In 1952, she married the late William Gist. Into that union William E. Gist was born. She followed Christ and was a member of Everybodys Church on the south side of Chicago for over 40 years. She played the piano for the choir during this time and raised her son in the church. She was instrumental in instilling music values into her sons life. She leaves to mourn: a loving, devoted son, William Edward Gist; faithful daughter-in-law, Beth Ann Gist; loving granddaughters, Clarinda Christina Gist-Mann (husband, Corey Mann), of Temple, Texas, and Andrea Nicole Gist, of Arlington, Texas; great-grandchildren, C.J. Torey and Haven Mann; close cousins, Antoine, Brenda, Dennie and Reesie and other Chicago cousins. "Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling...For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight.
