Raymond Vandergriff

Raymond William Vandergriff, 88, of Jacksonville, Fa., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013.Ray was born on Oct. 13, 1924 in Chattanooga, to Frank and Dorcus Mae Vandergriff. He was a selfless devoted husband to Alene, whom preceded him in January of this year. Ray was an Industrial Food Salesman, a member of Mandarin United Methodist Church, and a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Pacific Theater.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alene; brother, Frank; half sisters, Rosalee Rains and Grace Stanford.He is survived by his son, Kevan; daughter, Gaye (Andy) Foote; grandchildren, Justan Vandergriff, Angela (Joshua) Sheppard, Christen Foote; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Mandarin Cemetery, 12535 Mandarin Road with Rev. Debbie McLeod officiating.Ray was a Christ like example of a loving husband, father and grandfather.Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of N.E. FL., 4266 Sunbeam Road.Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jackson.
