Margaret Lorden

Margaret Henrietta Smith Lorden "Meg", 84, of Chattanooga, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal life with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 19, 2014. She was a Christian and member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. She served in the Bible Study Outreach at East Ridge retirement Center and was a member of the church's Prayer Room program. She also served in Music and Prayer at the Stratford House Nursing Home. Mrs. Lorden graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1947; she also attended the extension management program of the University of Maryland in Korea. After being employed as Secretary in the Engineering Department of Southern Bell Telephone Company for several years, she entered a career with the federal government and left Chattanooga in 1952. She was employed as a civilian with the Department of US Army and retired with 31 years service. During that time, she held highly responsible positions overseas in Japan, Korea, and Germany. She also worked in San Antonio, Atlanta, and at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. She spent 18 years of her career in San Francisco at the Presidio. She and her husband returned as permanent residents to Chattanooga in 1988. She was a member of the local chapter 108, National Association of Retired Federal Employees. After 29 years of marriage her beloved husband, Dan Lorden passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lewis Smith and Claudie Lockmiller Smith Lively and one brother, Jerry Lively. Mrs. Lorden is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Peggy (Charles) Gilley and Mrs. Eva (Bud) Dove; and one brother, David (Pat) Lively Sr.; and several nieces and nephews, all of Chattanooga. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday April 23, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens and Dr. Doug Plumlee, officiating. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
