Christel Mahan

Christel Millard Mahan, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2014. She was a native of East Prussia Germany and had lived in the Chattanooga and Rossville area since 1948, becoming a citizen of the United States in January of 1949. She had worked as a secretary at Bryan Hosiery Mills for five years and had worked as a line supervisor at Cutter Laboratories for 29 years. Mrs. Mahan was currently working for Chattanooga Coin and Stamps for the past thirty years. Her passions in life were her family and friends, her trips to the beach, her dogs, Patrick and Alfie, her cats, crocheting, cooking, and enjoying life. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Archie Millard and Jim Mahan, sons-in law, Lee Lane and Carl D. Godfrey III; and parents, Anton and Erna Spill. Survivors include her daughters, Nena Lane, of Chattanooga and Carlene Godfrey, of Athens, Ga.; brother, Peter Wolf Hart Spill, of Germany; two grandsons, Tony (Karen) Godfrey and Derek (Lauren) Godfrey; and two great-grandchildren, Adrian Arana and Taylor Godfrey. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Roger Carnes officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens South. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
