Doris Cameron

Doris Ann Barton Cameron, 88, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center. Doris was a lifelong resident of Spring City, graduating from the Spring City High School in 1945. She was also a member of Spring City United Methodist Church for her entire life. Doris taught the nursery Sunday school class for over 40 years, touching the lives of all babies who attended the church during that time. She worked at the Western Auto Store for many years and knew everyone who came into the store. An avid fan of UT football and the Lady Vols basketball, Doris would travel to all the home games and many of the games on the road. With her traveling companions, Gretchen Smith, Juanita "Sam" Lyons, Virginia True, Nola Watson, Edna Ruth Lyons and Tennga Conner, they toured the continental United States and parts of Canada. Walking became Doris's favorite hobby. She would wear out several pairs of walking shoes each year by making her daily jaunt of 4 to 6 miles often with her friends, Shirley Barnett, Christine Oney and Lorene Fourman. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Barbara Sheehan Barton; husband, Joe Cameron; son, Miles Cameron; brothers, James, Bill, Harold and John Barton; sisters, Pearl Woodfin, Helen Douglas and Gretchen Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Jill (John) Tomlinson, of Knoxville and Sandra "Sandy" (Tony) Chattin, of Spring City; granddaughter, Katie Chattin, of Spring City; several nieces, nephews and special friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Spring City United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. The family will receive friends at the Family Life Center following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring City United Methodist Church, P.O.
