Garnett Campbell

Garnett Winthrop Campbell, 90, of Hixson, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Garnett was born in Chattanooga on Dec. 15, 1923. He attended City High School and became a huge supporter over the years. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 752nd Engineers as a Tec/5 where he was awarded several medals for his service. He was most proud of his award for his participation in the Battle of Normandy. He loved getting together throughout the years with his troops during their annual reunions. He retired from his much beloved Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling Company as sales manager. He was a member of the Alhambra Shrine and always volunteered to drive sick children to the Shriner's Hospitals in Lexington, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio. Garnett loved his friends and neighbors and will be missed by all those who have met him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eston and Alice Campbell; brother, Max Campbell; and youngest son, Bryan Campbell. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Alice Louise Wallace Campbell; his sons, Gary (Jimmie) Campbell, Wayne (Diane) Campbell, Ron (Diana) Campbell, David Campbell, Mrs. Bryan (Christy) Campbell; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Campbell; lifelong friend, Richard Floyd and family; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, with Richard Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Monday with military honors. Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences.
