Edsil Logan

Thomas Edsil Logan, 78, beloved husband of Sandra Featherston Logan for 57 years, passed away peacefully at Erlanger Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. Edsil was born in Columbus, Miss., but moved to Jasper, Tenn., where he graduated from Marion County High School in 1954 and immediately joined the Air Force as a radar operator. In 1963, he attended technical school at Lackland Air Force Base and cross-rated as a Keypunch Operator. It was in this position, that Edsil self-taught himself computer programing and was able to pass the qualification test to become a system analyst. He retired as a Master Sargent in Montgomery, Alabama having served in the Air Force for 20 years. While in Montgomery, Edsil became extremely active at Eastdale Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he accepted a position at the KOA Campground in Ringgold, in 1975. He and his family soon became members of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he served in the food pantry, helped cook on youth and Acteen mission trips. After eight years of service at the KOA, Edsil opened, Edsils Gamerooms in Chattanooga. Later Edsil and Sandra moved to Saint. Marys, Ga. and have been attending the First Baptist Church of St. Marys. He was predeceased by his and son, Thomas Logan Jr., who tragically died as an infant in 1962; his mother, Daisy Beatrice Stallings Logan; father, Thomas Lee Logan; step-mother, Frances Logan; aunt and uncle, Preston and Lelia Green; sister, Bessie Simpson; brother, Randall Logan. He is also survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dennis Thornton, of Ringgold; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Lori Logan, of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Clara Jean Stallings, of Cuba, Ala., Earline Ross, of Jasper, Tenn. and Pat Fondern, of Vernon, Ala.; three grandchildren, Molly Logan, Grayson Logan and Staci Thornton Ryan, and her husband, Captain Joe Ryan; great-granddaughter, Tinsley Ryan; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held noon EDT Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Danny Henson, the Rev. Steve Kegley and the Rev. Michael Kirby officiating. Interment will follow at Sequatchie Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the funeral home.
