Barbara Newton

Barbara Williamson Newton, 77, of Signal Mountain, faithful wife, mother and grandmother, celebrated her homecoming in heaven on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014. Barbara has been a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and Signal Mountain area. She was a graduate of Tyner High School and received her Education Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Barbara taught at Lakeside Elementary School and retired from the Hamilton County School System. She was a longtime active member of her much-loved Brainerd Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Barbara was also an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church and currently a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth Paul Newton; her parents, James and Elsie Williamson. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Leza (David) Simpson; granddaughters, Hannah and Lizzy Simpson; sister, Bettye Kilgore; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Dec. 22, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A graveside celebration of Barbaras life will follow at 1 p.m. this afternoon at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. David Harr officiating.
