Hoke Cantrell Sr.

Harold Hoke Cantrell Sr., 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. Hoke was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. A veteran of WWII, Hoke served in the Navy and was stationed on Oahu. He was retired from the Catoosa Utility District and had also served as a Catoosa Board of Utilities Commissioner. Prior to his illness, Hoke was an active member of Ringgold First Baptist Church. He and his wife, Jackie, spent countless hours visiting the elderly and shut-ins as part of the Churchs tape ministry. Hoke was also a Mason, Quitman Lodge 106. Hoke was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jackie Williams Cantrell; parents, Hoke Strickland and Nancy Ruff Cantrell; five brothers, Blucher Cantrell, Henry Cantrell, Emmitt Cantrell, Porter Cantrell and Roy Cantrell; six sisters, Madge Holland, Exie Wilbanks, Nora Eaker Wattenbarger, Charlotte Cantrell, Ellen Eaker and Margaret Thomas; and great-grandson, Joshua Brewer. Hoke counted his family among his greatest blessings. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Pat Cantrell, Dunlap, Tenn., and Hal and Donna Cantrell, Ooltewah; granddaughters, Starla (Larry) Ferrell, Sanford, N.C., Samantha (Todd) Vandergriff, Chattanooga, and Kristina (Mark) Anderson, Boise, ID; grandsons, Nathan (Lauren) Cantrell, Ringgold, Ga., and Lewis Cantrell, Nashville; great-grandchildren, Zachary (Rachael) Brewer, Leslie (Jacob) Maness, Sam Bullard and Jessie Ferrell, all of Sanford, N.C., Sage Vandergriff and Coy Vandergriff, Chattanooga, Andrew Cantrell, Sydney Cantrell, Lexi Cantrell and Julianna Henson, all of Ringgold; great-great grandchildren, Taylor Brewer, Emma Maness, Mollie Maness and Cameron Joshua Brewer, Sanford, N.C.; and many more loved nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Dan Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Nathan Cantrell, Lewis Cantrell, Coy Vandergriff, Andrew Cantrell, Eddie Eaker, Daniel Jolley and Eric Haskett.
