Garry James

Garry L. James, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was born May 16, 1954. Garry was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Mae James Foster; and fathers, Jesse James Jr. and Nora Betts. Garry was a 1972 graduate of Riverside High School. Garry retired from New York Department of Corrections after 25 years. He is survived by his sons Gary Jr. and Jeremy James, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; fiance and caregiver, Bernice Reuben, Brooklyn, N.Y.; loving and devoted sisters, Sharon (Gary) Howard, Karen (Ronald King) Holland, both of Chattanooga, Latoya (Michael) McCorkle, of Kennesaw, Ga., and Debbie Holt Patton, of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, Terry (Sophelia) James, Howard (Theresa) Evans, Harold Evans, of Chattanooga, and Michael (Reba) Heard, of Atlanta; loving aunts, Julia Bryant and Mary Adams, of Chattanooga, Martha Newson; and a host of relatives, friends and coworkers. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, in the Chapel. The body will lie in state after noon today. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
