Lee Childress

Lee Childress, 89, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday Feb. 18, 2014. She was born and raised in Walker County, Ga., the seventh child of the late John Henry and Ethel Ophelia Adams Oliver. Granny was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed worshipping with all her friends. Mrs. Childress lived in Red Bank for nearly 50 years. She had worked at McQuarters Drugs and Hundley Pharmacy where she was known as Sam by the throng of High School Students that flocked into the lunch counter. She was a proud member of the American Turner Club and the Ladies Shrine. She was known as the Candy Apple Lady at the Shriners Circus where she worked for many years, and The Biscuit lady at the Shriner Dinners and breakfasts. She gave her whole life loving and helping others and was a true example of "Christ In Us The Hope Of Glory". Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Daniel Childress; five brothers, John, Harold, Joe, Clyde and Charles Oliver; and four sisters, Willa Mae Palmer, Luna Swanson, Mary Swanson and Ann Marcantel. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Charles) Cochran and Sherion (Gerald) Bowers; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenneth Oliver and Rev. Randy Avans officiating. Interment in LaFayette Memory Gardens.
