Betty Clancy

Betty Jeanette Reed Clancy, 79, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Walnut Cove Health Center after a lengthy battle with Parkinsonism. She was born June 4, 1934, in Gilliam, McDowell County, W.Va., to the late Raymond Edward Reed and Mabel Elledge Reed. Mrs. Clancy graduated from North Fork HS. She served her country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and retired from Eastern Air Lines and SATO travel. She was a devout Catholic volunteering in many capacities with... her local parishes and earned her Master Gardener certification while living in Huntsville, Ala. Her talent was reflected in the landscapes of her homes. She enjoyed traveling the world and was an avid reader. Betty was preceded in death by brother, Clarence Raymond Reed; Francis John Clancy Jr. (father of her children); son-in-law, Nicholas Grimanis. Betty is survived by four daughters, Anne Clancy (R. Tracy) Thomas, Siloam, N.C.; Cindy Clancy (Jim) Nelson, Huntsville, Ala.; Corinne (Dr. Freeman) Doster, Lookout Mountain, Ga.; Carolyn Grimanis. Seven grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Gaga: Christin, Courtney, Catherine Thomas; Dr. Cross, Reed, Stuart Doster; Alexandra Grimanis; and four great-grandchildren, Edgar, Aidan, Alex and Max; sisters, Sue Carolyn (Bob) Williams, St. Cloud, Fla.; Harriett (Chet) Sedke, Tavares, Fla. A funeral mass with military honors will be held at St. Leos Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave., Winston Salem, N.C., at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 22, 2014. Followed by a reception at the home of Christin Thomas, Winston Salem, N.
