Chris Zahnd Jr. Chris Emil Zahnd Jr., 73, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Park Ridge Medical Center from a prolonged illness. He was born in St. Elmo, on Feb. 8, 1941, to the late Bess and Chris Emil Zahnd Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ann Zahnd Moon. Survivors include his wife whom he was happily married to for close to 39 years, Jayne Wilson Zahnd. Chris is also survived by daughter, Leigh Ann; sons, Chris (Patricia) and Jeff and three grandchildren, Morgan (16), Chris (11) and Jacob "Jake", (6); nephew, Shelby Moon; and many cousins whom he cherished. He enjoyed his years at Darlington High School and the University of North Carolina. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren. After many years of working, he loved more than any other job in his life working at Feather and Fly on Broad Street. Chris was a man who was so many things to so many people loving husband, Dad, Pop, best friend, childhood friend, fraternity brother, second father, fishing and/or hunting buddy, uncle, cousin and a mentor to so many by being a true Southern Gentleman. His belief in God was connected to the sanctuary he found in nature and is believed to be in Heaven fishing a great fishing hole as we speak. Chris Zahnd will be greatly missed by so many. Donations may be made in his name to the Heart Association, Cancer Association or the Church of the Good Shepherd. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2014, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Lookout Mountain. Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. in the Talbird Hall of the Church. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. Share your memories at www.wannfuneralhome.com.
