Ernestine Stanfield

LaFAYETTE Ernestine "Dink" Hegwood Stanfield joined her Lord, her loving husband of 50 years, Ray Stanfield; her mother and father, Lela and Bart Hegwood; brother, Jud Hegwood; sisters, Lois Loughridge, Bernice Graves, Annabell Quarles, Rose Stanfield and Marie Lowrance in her heavenly home on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her passion was her flowers, yard, playing the piano and dancing. She loved frequenting the Senior Center in Ringgold, Eastgate and Troy's in Ringgold. She shared many good times there with her friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette for 65 years and a member of the Ellis-Walraven Sunday School Class. A special thank you to her care-givers, Brenda Dewey and Terri Howe. Special thank you to her wonderful friend Leo Edwards who gave her great joy her last two years. She was born in the Catlett Community of Walker County on Sept. 13, 1923. She was a 1940 graduate of LaFayette High School. She married Ray Stanfield on Jan. 21, 1943. She resided on North Duke St. in LaFayette until 2010, when she movedto Creekside Retirement Community. She is survived by a son and wife, Larry and Vickie Stanfield, LaFayette; daughter and husband, Susan and Steve Underwood, of Chattanooga; grandsons, Greg (Vanessa) Stanfield, Ringgold, Todd (Tara) Wood, Ringgold, Brent Stanfield, Santa Clarita, Calif., and Brian Wood, Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Jay Stanfield, Dax Wood, Chase Wood, Jacob Wood, Alivia Wood and Hanna Wood; several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. Service conducted by Dr. Warren Moorhead. Interment in LaFayette Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.
