Violet Steele

Violet Mae Steele, 92, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. She was a longtime active member of Silverdale Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School Class, the Joy Class. Violet had worked for Davenport Hosiery Mills for 20 years, Childrens Hospital for 20 years and Health Center at Standifer Place over 20 years. She loved to sew, garden and read. Survivors include her son, Douglas (Delores) Steele, of East Ridge; daughter, Pat Hanawalt, of East Ridge; two grandchildren, Gregory D. (Donna) Steele and Angela D. (Phillip) Bumgarner; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alexandrea, Sophia and Victoria Bumgarner and Natalie and Cole Steele; two brothers, Frank E. (Donna) Scoggins and Marvin L. (Bernice) Scoggins, all of Harrison; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road with the Rev. Tony Walliser officiating. Burial will be in New McDonald Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
