Raymond Garner Sr.

Raymond Martin Garner Sr., of Chattanooga, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. He was born in Sherwood, Tenn., to the late Albert and Bertha Garner and served his country in United States Army during WWII and later retired from J.D. Helton Roofing after 16 years of service there. Raymond was of the Church of Christ faith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Marie Garner; grandson, Michael Ray Garner; great-grandson, Chucky Alexander; and six brothers. Survivors include his children, Virginia Brown, of Chattanooga, Mary Pardue, of Winder, Ga., Mildred Davis, of Chickamauga, Ray Garner Jr., Buddy Garner, Tommy Garner, all of Chattanooga, 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, in the chapel with Rev. Tom Whitsett officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
