Barney Speicher

Byron "Barney" Speicher, 81, of Hixson, met his Savior on Sunday, June 1, 2014, after an extended illness. Barney was born in Goshen, Ind., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving our country in the Unites States Army. Barney retired from Bethel Bible Village after 37 years. He was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church. Barney loved his family and was an antique car lover. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Maude Sommers Speicher; siblings, Frank Speicher, Erma Speicher Anstine, Marie Speicher Rohrer, Pat Speicher, Harry Speicher Jr., Vernon Speicher, Marion Speicher and Chet Speicher. Barney is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Lou Bushong Speicher; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Elana Speicher and Ron and Cherie Speicher; grandchildren, Luke and his wife Caitlin Speicher, Daniel, Ethan, Evan, Aaron and Amanda Speicher; great granddaughter, Emma Lepley; siblings, Emmanuel "Spike" and his wife Carol Speicher, and Lewis "Lewie" and his wife Norma Jean Speicher; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, June 5, 2014, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of life service for Barney will follow at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Myron Wilkins and the Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Burial will be private for the family only at National Cemetery with military honors. The family would like to thank the staff at Soddy-Daisy Health Care Facility, the nurses and technicians at the Cardio Unit on the fourth floor at Erlanger for their love and care given to Barney during his illness. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Barneys name to Bethel Bible Village at 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
