Odell Avans

Odell Avans, 71, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Dade County and Chickamauga, where he worked as a Barber for most of his life. He was a member of Shield Baptist Church in Chickamauga where he was active in the choir. His passions in life were God, family, old cars, air shows and music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Avans; son, Jason Avans; brother, Gary Avans; and parents, Earl and Grace Avans. Survivors include his wife, Irene Wilson; two sons, Phillip (Mary) Avans, of Trenton, Ga., and Eric (Andrea) Avans, of East Ridge; brothers, Doug Avans of Varnell, Ga., Anthony Avans, of Brushy Creek, Tenn., and Randy Avans, of Dalton, Ga.; sisters, Jan Dalton, of Chattanooga, and Earline Simmons, of Athol, Idaho; three grandchildren, Eric, Henry and Olivia Avans; and several nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the South Crest Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lafayette Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 2-6 p.m. and Monday from noon until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
