Mary Alice Wilson

Mary Alice Wilson, 93, a longtime resident of East Brainerd, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 10, 2014. Mary Alice was educated in the Chattanooga School System and graduated from the University of Chattanooga. She accepted Christ at an early age, and faithfully worshiped for many years at Concord Baptist Church. She served in numerous capacities including Sunday School teacher, Womens Missionary Union president, church choir member, and director of Concords first kindergarten. It was also at Concord where she met the love of her life, Maurice Wilson, to whom she was married for 67 years. Her love of literature, drama, and the English language led her into a career of teaching at the junior high and high school levels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her parents, Henry and Mollie Howell; and her brother, Marshall Howell. Mary Alice will always be remembered by her family and friends for her sweet, humble spirit and her servants heart. She frequently expressed her thankfulness that the Lord had blessed her with three daughters, Judy Ellington, Jean (Joe) Smallwood and Maurine (David) Ward. She was a special "Memaw" to eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, and a sweet Aunt Mary to several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the East Brainerd Chapel with Dr. David King officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today, March 12, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Concord Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Hickory Valley Retirement Center for the loving care shown to both parents during the latter years of their lives.
