Mary Holleman

Mary Louise Ellis Holleman passed away at her home in Valley Head on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was a lifelong resident of Valley Head and a lifelong member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church. Over the course of her lifetime she held numerous church offices, taught a Sunday School class and actively supported the church in all its undertakings. In addition to her role as a homemaker, she was the agent in charge of the Federal Crop Insurance office in Fort Payne for more than 18 years, an administrative assistant at the Fort Payne Bank for more than 10 years, and secretary for Camp DeSoto for 10 years. She was active in school and community affairs in the Valley Head area. She was a past president of the Valley Head High School parent-teacher organization. She was an active member of the Valley Head Womans Club for over 50 years and a past president of that club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Tedford Holleman; her parents, John William and Maria Davenport Ellis; her brothers, J.W. Ellis II and Nicholas D. Ellis; and her sister, Adelaide Biddle. She is survived by her son, John B. Holleman, of Valley Head; her brother, Robert Nelson Ellis, and his wife, Elizabeth; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be from the Burt Funeral Home Chapel in Valley Head starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 14, with Tony Gunter and Jeff Adkins officiating, The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. today, March 13, and from 10 a.m. on Friday, March 14, until the beginning of the funeral service.
