Janice Kennedy

Janice Irwin Holt Kennedy, 63, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, after an almost two year battle with Bile Duct Cancer. Janice was the first daughter of George E. Irwin and Bobbie Lovelady Irwin and was raised and lived in Soddy-Daisy. In 1969 she graduated from Soddy-Daisy High where she played basketball and was active with the student body. Her work history includes DuPont (nine years) and BlueCross BlueShield (25 years), where she retired from in 2008. Janice was an active, lifelong member of Soddy Church of Christ where she helped host many showers, weddings, and events. Her many creative talents include flower arranging, gardening, cooking, canning, and arts and crafts. She has been happily married for three years to Sam Kennedy, Chattanooga. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Lucretia Irwin, Chattanooga, and Deborah Kay Irwin Taylor, Knoxville; her mother, Bobbie L. Irwin, Chattanooga; and her father, George E. Irwin, Chattanooga. Survivors include her husband, Sam Kennedy, Chattanooga; only child, Sherry (Scott) Mast, Nashville; grandsons, Jack Mast and Samuel Mast, Nashville; niece, Kristi Taylor Bumpus, Jasper; nephew, Aaron Taylor, Chattanooga; great-nephew, Payne Bumpus, Jasper; and great-niece, Ryan Bumpus, Jasper; aunt, Jimmie Lou Irwin; several cousins and numerous friends. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, with Minister Bill Greer officiating and burial will take place immediately following the service at Chattanooga Memorial Park, 501 Memorial Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
