Lester Morris

LaFAYETTE Lester Lee Morris, 70, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was born in Short Creek, Ky., on Sept. 28, 1943, to the late V.L. and Lucille Young Morris. He was a 1961 graduate of Caneyville High School. He and his family moved to Georgia in 1983 where he served as supervisor for ConTel service center. He retired from Verizon in 1993 with 29 years. After retiring from Verizon he worked 15 years for Preferred Office Supply in LaFayette, Ga. He was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons. Lester was also a member of the Gideon's. He is survived by loving wife of 50 years, Peggy Ashley Morris; daughter, Kristi Morris, both LaFayette; sister, Shelba Cummings; nephew, Barry (Lisa) Cummings all of Bowling Green, Ky., and Scott (Sara) Cummings, of Smith Grove, Ky.; four great-nephews and two great-nieces also survive. Funeral from the Bethel Memorial Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) today with Rev. Bud Martenn officiating. Interment in New Hope Cemetery in Caneyville, Ky., Sunday, May 11, 2014. Family will receive friends at Bethel Memorial Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ga. today, May 8, from 3 p.m. until service time at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) and Saturday, May 10, at Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville, Ky., from 2 to 8 p.m. (CDT). A service will follow at 2 p.m. (CDT)on Sunday, May 11, in the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to the Gideons International for Bibles.
