John Grider Brother

John W. Grider, CFA, died on Friday, May 9, 2014. Brother John was an Alexian Brother for almost 75 years. Born in Springfield, Ky. December 13, 1919, son of Otho Blane Grider and Martha Cecilia Tobin, brother of Forrest Grider and Louise Grider Freibert, all deceased. He is survived by nieces Cathie Freibert MD, Ellen Mershom (Freibert), and Nancy Freibert; and nephews, John Grider, Joe Grider and Jerry Grider. Brother John Grider joined the Alexian Brothers at Signal Mountain, Tenn. on September 9, 1939 and made his Life Profession on March 19, 1947. He was educated and served as a Registered Nurse and a Medical Technologist, later accepted the ministry of Director of Postulants (new candidates), served as Community Health Nurse in Walterboro, S.C. plus many other roles within the Alexian Brothers. He was a choir director and organist, and enjoyed bird watching. He is remembered by his bright smile and willingness to help, even offering to help the nurses caring for him in his last hours. All services for Brother Grider will be conducted at St. Augustine Chapel, Alexian Village, Signal Mountain, Tenn. On Tuesday, May 13, 2014 a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. On Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. there will be a Mass of Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest at the Alexian Brothers plot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tenn. Please share your condolences at www.chattanoogaeastchapel.com.
