Melvin Warren Sr.

Melvin L. Warren Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1930 in Chattanooga, to the late Walker Lee Warren and Stella Eledge Warren. He was a lifelong resident of East Ridge. He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and served in the Army National Guard of Tennessee Battery A, 181st Army Field Artillery Battalion from 19471956. Melvin was the proprietor of Broad Street Shell for 16 years, went on to manage rental properties for many years and ultimately owned and managed Warren Motor Company. Melvin loved to buy, refurbish and sell cars and was an avid herb and vegetable gardener. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Voiles Warren. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Warren, of Chattanooga; son, Melvin Jr. (Ann), of Oxford, Miss.; daughter, Nancy W. (Roy) Williams, of Chattanooga; grandsons, Daniel Warren, of Oxford, Miss., and Mac Warren, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Janey (Frank) Lewis, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Judy Taylor, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga and caregivers, Barbara Bates, Steven Bates, Joann Burns, Mark Forgey, Sara Lahti, Karl Schneller and Barbara Shinn. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
