Mildred Skelton

Mildred Jeanette Payne Skelton, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Soddy-Daisy to the late Hab L. and Queen E. Payne. Mrs. Skelton was retired from Bell South after 40 years of service. She was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Her husband of 51 years, Clifford E. Skelton; one son, Eddie Skelton; and three brothers, Bill, Bud, and James Payne; preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary S. (Sandra) Skelton, Ricky E. (Jackie) Skelton, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Kathryn Reiniche, of Chattanooga, Derek (Stephanie) Skelton, of Rock Spring, Stacy (Stephen) Johnson, of Knoxville, Allison (Derek) Jones, of Knoxville and Amanda (Alex) Stinson, of Chattanooga; two sisters, June Lanius, of Hixson and Diane (Wayne) Campbell, of Soddy-Daisy; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the second and third-floor nurses at Memorial North Park Hospital for their excellent and professional care for Mrs. Skelton. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Sept. 3, in the North Chapel, with Rev. Bert Jones and Dr. Fred Steelman officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
