Velma Hackworth

Velma Slatton Hackworth, 99, died at her home Sunday, April 19, 2015. Mrs. Hackworth graduated from Whitwell High School, Class of 1935. She was a longtime member and a very active member of Daus Baptist Church until her health failed her. Preceded in death by her husband, Hobart Levi Hackworth; grandson, Vance Caldwell; sister, Novella Douglas; brothers, Chris, Frank, Roy and Ted Slatton. Survivors include two daughters, Reatha (Kenneth) Caldwell, Dunlap and Dona (Bobby) Loyd, Pikeville; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Loyd, Aaron (Bridget) Loyd, Ethan (Melanie) Loyd, Charles Caldwell, Carlene (Terry) Layne, Rida Smith and Robin Cunningham; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday in Ewton Funeral Home chapel with Brother Tony Cates and Brother Ray Chism officiating. Burial in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 4-9 p.m. today.
