Crutcher Gardner

Crutcher W. Gardner, "Hawk Eye", 88, transitioned Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at NHC of Chattanooga. He was a World War II Veteran, United States Army. He was retired from U.S. Pipe Foundry after 38 years of employment, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Thankful Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie E. W. and Leola C. Gardner; son, Bruce E. Gardner; stepdaughter, Vonica R. Porter; three brothers, Elmer, Ernest and Marvin Gardner; two sisters, Clara Mitchell and Fannie Henry; niece, Joyce C. Lyons; son-in-law, William T. Wright Jr.; two brothers-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Dorothy R. Gardner; two daughters, Joe Ann G. Wright and Barbara G. (Dwone) Davidson of Chattanooga; three sons, Larry (Linda) Gardner of Chattanooga; Dwight W. Gardner of Conyers, Ga., and Donnie (Leihua) King of Kapolei, Hawaii; three stepdaughters, Brenda Moorer, Bettie (Cookie) Willis and Lena (Gregory) Hall, all of Chattanooga; two stepsons, Joseph (Danielle) Turner of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry (Mae) Turner of Ringgold, Ga.; five sisters, Mary D. Ray of Nashville, TN, Mattie Short of Chattanooga, Ruth V. Gardner of Toney, Ala., Thretha D. (Budford) Thompson of New Market, Ala., and Carolyn P. (Freemon) Thomas of St. Matthews, S.C.; thirty grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, one sister-in-law; six brothers-in-law, special friends, Lisa Sims and Janet Young; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at Thankful Baptist Church with Pastor Oscar Lockhart officiating. Interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery, Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state after noon today, the family will receive friends from 78 p.m. this evening at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
