Clinton Tallant

Clinton Harold Tallant, 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Eli and Ella Barnes Tallant; his brother, Kenneth E. Tallant; his sister, Mildred T. Hill; and his wife of 68 years, Mildred Rodgers Tallant. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Shelley (Hobert); son, Harold L. Tallant; grandchildren, Meredith (Kevin) Garner and Matthew Shelley; three great-grandsons, Jake, Jamie and Jonah Garner; sister-in-law, Marsena Walker; and several nieces and nephews. Clinton was a descendent of a pioneer family who settled in Ooltewah in the early 1800s and was raised in the Eastdale community. Some of his happiest times were spent with family and friends. He graduated from Central High School in 1937 and served with the Navy Seabees during World War II stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was employed by Interstate Life for 20 years. He was a member of the James County Historical Society, Brainerd Optimist Club, Cherokee Camping Club and the American Legion. Clinton loved his church, Brainerd Baptist, and was a member there since 1952. He was the oldest deacon at the time of his passing and was a member of the Dixon/Pryor Life Group. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
