Gayle Smith

Gayle Ann Miller Smith, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at a local hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Chattanooga on May 14, 1947, she was a graduate of Red Bank High School Class of 1965 and attended McKenzie College. Gayle was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. She was office manager at Copelands Inc., for the past 30 years. She also worked at Lillie Maes Place for several years where she made many friends and loved interacting with hungry customers. She enjoyed camping, skiing, reading, and water sports. She was an active member of Stuart Heights Baptist Church and the Brandenburg Sunday School Class. A 2009 member of Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, Gayle volunteered many hours for the Hamilton County Fair Exhibit, Garden Expo, Food Bank Garden Tours and the Chattanooga Market questions and answer booth. Always helping people, she served as a Master Gardner Mentor for five years. Gayle was predeceased by her parents, Elton and Ann Miller; and a brother, George Miller. She is survived by her brother, Newell Miller; daughter, Pam Richey; and grandchildren, Britany, Destiny, Brian and James; son, Lee Richey; and granddaughter, Aeris. Visitation will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at Stuart Heights Baptist Church, Chattanooga Campus, 3208 Hixson Pike (in the S curves), with a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Davenport and Tony Carroll officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
