Terry Ashley

Terry J. Ashley, 66, of Hixson, formerly of Effingham, Ill., went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Hospice of Chattanooga Care Center, Chattanooga. Terry was born in Effingham, Ill., the son of William J. and Mabel (Haney) Ashley. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He married Kimberly Ann Chovan Holmes of Reedsburg, Wis., on Dec. 27, 2002. Terry worked for World Color Press, Perry Judds Printing, and R.R. Donnelley. He was an active member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry and the United States Tennis Association. Terry was a volunteer with Hospice and Ronald McDonald House Charity. He also donated many hours providing tennis lessons. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly; son, Ryan W. (Tina) Ashley, of Goshen, Ind.; daughters, Kari N. Ashley, of Evansville, Ind., and Kimberlee J. Adams, of Decatur, Ill.; stepchildren, Haylee A. Chovan, of Baraboo, Wis., Tylor R. Chovan, of Lone Rock, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Ronald D. Ashley, of Effingham, Ill., and Larry D. Ashley, of Edinburgh, Ind.; and sisters, Joyce I. Shull, of Mattoon and Ann Hess, of Easley, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Mabel Ashley; sisters, Shirley Fowler and Jean Franklin; and brother, William J. Ashley. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, Ill. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery, Watson, Ill., with military rites. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to services in St. Clare Hall at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. The family would like to invite you to the American Legion in Effingham for a celebration of Terrys life following the graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans.
